Science Bowl is a team contest offered by the US Department of Energy. The format is speed-based buzzer questions; a question is read and the first person to press his or her buzzer earns the right to answer. Questions are equally distributed in 6 categories, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Energy, Mathematics, and Physics. Each question will be either multiple choice (W, X, Y, Z) or verbal answer.
The first round of tryouts will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, from 3-5 PM. It will be a long multiple choice test with approximately half a minute per question. Top scorers will move to the second round with buzzers, where the 5 members of Team A will be selected.
We will have four teams, although only Team A and potentially Team B will end up actually competing. The teams that do not compete are formed with the intent to practice for the competition team in coming years. The compositions of the team are:
- Team A: Open to All
- Team B: Juniors and Below
- Team C: Sophomores and Below
- Team D: Sophomores and Below
Regular practices are mandatory for all teams, particularly teams A and B, which will practice at least once a week until the contest with additional outside studying required.
