Science Bowl is a team contest offered by the US Department of Energy. The format is speed-based; a question is read and the first person to press his or her buzzer earns the right to answer.
First round is Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 3-4:30 pm. Top 30 scorers move to the second round, held Sept 26 after school. Top 10 move to the third round (buzzer round) held October 2 after school, where the 5 members of Team A are chosen.
Questions are equally distributed in 6 categories, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Energy, Mathematics, and Physics.
There are four teams, although only one or two will likely participate in the actual contest.
Regular practices are mandatory for all teams, especially teams A and B, which will practice at least once a week until the contest with additional outside studying required.
For additional information and some sample questions, refer to the Science Bowl website.
