The Quest for the OSB

On Saturday February 27, Lynbrook finished as 3rd place finalists in the varsity division as well as 1st place in the JV division at the 2016 Northern California Regional Competition, the Sea Lion Bowl! The competition was held at Stanford University’s School of Earth, Energy, and Environmental Studies. This year marks only the third time that our team has competed in recent years, with the team coming in as finalists just last year, so pulling through another season has definitely got Lynbrook Ocean Science Bowl into the fast lane.

Congratulations to: Edward Lee (Captain), Vinay Kukutla (Co-Captain), Jasper Huang, Charlie Huang, and Arnav Amruth for their spectacular accomplishment! This year’s varsity team faced a tough round robin bracket, squaring up many other experienced teams. Nevertheless, the team rallied to earn a position in the quarterfinal elimination rounds. Getting back on their feet to convert a moderate 5th seeding into advance, Lynbrook stomped over Mira Loma to advance to the semis. Unfortunately, the team lost to Albany, the team that ended up winning the competition.

More congratulations to Leslie Pu, Nathan Zhang, Rohan Mehrotra, Susan Zhou, and Isha Mehrotra for closing out the JV bracket with the champion title! Special thanks to Mr. Pallone for coaching and being dedicated to the team! All schools in the JV division were shut down by Lynbrook without a fuss.

OSB2

Formal language aside, we have some important things we would like to say. For two years in a row, we’ve demonstrated that Lynbrook is and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with. It’s evident that we have the potential to dominate the Sea Lion Bowl and even make it to nationals. With 2 years of experience in the bank, Lynbrook OSB is really climbing to high altitudes.

With that, I’d like to take the opportunity to encourage everyone to embark on the journey with us to conquer the Ocean Sciences Bowl. Our goal is to claim the title, and we’ll work together to achieve that. Now that’s the ultimate quest.
